As a frontline implementer, Juba Foundation is responding to one of Somalia’s most urgent humanitarian needs—safe and durable shelter for displaced populations.

Across Somalia, many families live in “Buul” shelters—fragile stick-framed structures wrapped in plastic that provide minimal protection against extreme weather conditions.
In 2026, an estimated 3.1 million people require shelter assistance, with approximately 88% of internally displaced persons (IDPs) still living in these vulnerable shelters.
Between 2023 and 2024, Juba Foundation supported 20,000 people with emergency and durable shelter solutions and essential humanitarian aid. However, frequent flash floods, prolonged droughts, and a complex political environment continue to worsen the crisis.
In response, Juba Foundation is implementing a three-year project focused on climate-resilient housing solutions. This initiative will reach over 36,000 people, providing stronger, durable homes designed to withstand environmental shocks.

A key part of our approach is inclusivity, ensuring people living with disabilities are prioritized and receive equitable access to safe and dignified shelter.

Through this project, Juba Foundation aims to strengthen community resilience, reduce vulnerability, and support sustainable recovery for displaced populations across Somalia.
